Office of National Coordinator: Achieve Meaningful Use Stage 2

August 22, 2012

On August 23, 2012, CMS announced a final rule to govern Stage 2 of the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. The rule specifies the Stage 2 criteria that eligible professionals (EPs), eligible hospitals, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) must meet in order to continue to participate in the EHR Incentive Programs. The final rule for meaningful use Stage 2* intends to increase health information exchange between providers and promote patient engagement by giving patients secure online access to their health information.

eHealth Initiative 2020 Roadmap Goals Priorities and Areas of Consensus

September 10, 2014

With eHealth Initiative’s unique position as a neutral entity that brings together representatives across the entire healthcare continuum, the 2020 Roadmap was born with the intention to harmonize the new technologies and models of care in a way that brings about meaningful change that improves population health, increases patient-consumer experiences and lowers costs. eHI members share a unique vision to transform care delivery with patient-centric care by 2020 in 3 key areas: Interoperability, Data Access and Use, and Clinical and Business Motivators.

Christopher Ross, CIO, Mayo Clinic Discusses Policy Priorities

May 18, 2017

Christopher Ross, CIO, Mayo Clinic: “Hindsight is 20/20 , but I would make the argument that meaningful use incentives that got electronic systems into practices DID a lot of good…but especially as we moved into stage 2 and we are moving into stage 3, the requirements have become so prescriptive… as opposed to measuring outcomes and results from the use of technology…I think we can fix that, we shouldn’t lose hope, but we do need to move to some new kinds of models around how technology is incentivized in practices… part of it should match up against the payment for value kinds of approaches…"

ICD-10 Survey Results

With the compliance deadline for implementing the ICD-10 code set only four months away, eHealth Initiative (eHI) and the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) surveyed healthcare providers in spring of 2015 to understand how they are preparing for the transition, assess the anticipated impact of the transition, and explore post-implementation plans. Please join eHI, AHIMA, and Greenway Health for a webinar presentation on June 17 from 1:00 – 2:30 pm EDT to hear the results from the survey. An expert panel will share their reactions and perspectives on the findings.

2015 ACO Survey Results

Since 2013, eHealth Initiative and Premier, Inc. have surveyed public and commercial accountable care organizations to better understand how ACOs are leveraging health information technology to achieve cost savings and quality improvement. This year's survey is focused on interoperability and data use. A webinar presentation of key findings from the survey was held September 8.

Policy Workgroup

Attend the September eHI PWG and hear the latest on Congressional legislative innovation and Health IT activity. The House passed its health innovation initiative – the 21st Century Cures Act – on July 10, 2015. On the Senate side, Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Chair Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Ranking Member Patty Murray (D-WA) recently requested for stakeholders across the health IT spectrum to send structured, succinct feedback about how to promote health care safety, innovation, interoperability and a move towards precision medicine.

2020 Roadmap: Examples of Successful Interoperability

During 2015 as part of eHI’s 2020 Roadmap initiative, eHealth Initiative established the Interoperability Workgroup to address challenges to interoperability. Over the last 12 months, the group has gathered 40+ use cases of successful interoperability. This webinar and accompanying report presents examples of interoperability across the country that deliver value to health care providers and consumers. Join eHealth Initiative and Cerner for a webinar on December 9 at 2:00 pm EST to hear more of these success stories and best practices for implementing interoperability in your organization.

Advancing Interoperability for High-Quality Healthcare

Interoperability is critical to achieving value-based care. It not only facilitates care management and coordination efforts, but also drives the collection and analysis of clinical data to derive new insights. However, the overwhelmingly vast array of available enterprise health information technologies, competitive economic concerns, and the long-standing legacy of siloed healthcare have stymied efforts to build interoperability and hindered new approaches to care delivery and payment.

Considering the Cloud: Inside the Mind of the Healthcare CIO

Cloud services have rapidly changed the nature of data management across industries. In healthcare, organizations are increasingly deploying cloud-based solutions to capture, store, and analyze clinical data. Although implementation of the cloud entails new ways of thinking about governance, technical integration, and security, cloud technologies can contribute to significant improvements in operational flexibility while reducing costs.
