OVERVIEW
In 2022, Executives for Health Innovation (EHI) convened a small group of cybersecurity experts, regulators, and policy experts to discuss cybersecurity concerns facing the healthcare industry.

During this impressive roundtable, the group identified the top concerns driving executives, including:

• new guidance and regulations related to medical devices, healthcare systems, and patient data;
• the current legislative challenges facing Congress; and
• recent FDA draft guidance and pending legislation.

A summary of the key concerns and highlights from the discussion are offered in this report.

Overview
A recent KFF Health poll found that ~50% of voters are more motivated than ever to vote on Nov. 8 — and 55% of those same voters polled said healthcare issues would be top of mind when it comes time to cast their ballots. Significant changes have happened across the healthcare industry — and regardless of what side of the aisle you find yourself on, we can all agree that the mid-term election results will undoubtedly influence healthcare policy as we know it.

EHI’s Policy Steering Committee members broke down the election results, predicted what’s on deck for Congress in 2023, and reviewed the results’ potential impacts on healthcare policy.

Overview
Dr. John Halamka, President of Mayo Clinic Platform, discusses the importance of public/private partnerships inside the healthcare technology ecosystem. He explains how the government can foster, and not stifle, the innovative tools being created to enhance patient care and ensure positive health outcomes through necessary guidelines, guardrails, and the push for transparency of data collection, protection, and clean data-set composition.

Dr. Halamka explains why there is a need to set a standard metrics with which researchers can use to measure the performance of their AI models in healthcare.

Federal legislators and regulators are working hard to ensure that all patients have quality healthcare. Often, important decisions about healthcare come down to trust and access to data. It’s no easy task to find a single solution to the myriad of hurdles that payers, providers, and vendors are discovering in their journey to deliver care through the secure sharing of patient data properly. New legislation, such as the No Surprises Act and new regulations, including CMS’s Interoperability Rule, are examples of the federal government working to find the mythical, single solution.
