New Mayo Clinic Proceedings Expansion Journal will Focus on Healthcare’s Digital Transformation

Mayo Clinic will launch a new Mayo Clinic Proceedings expansion journal on digital health, with the first issue to be published in early 2023. Articles will be published ahead of the issue as they are accepted.

The journal, Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Digital Health, will focus on the digital transformation that is reshaping health care. It will join Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Innovations, Quality & Outcomes, an open-access journal edited by Taimur Sher, M.B.B.S., M.D., a Mayo Clinic hematologist and oncologist, that publishes the latest research on health care delivery.

Leveraging Tchnology to Improve Healthcare Access and Delivery

In addition to the influences of SDH, inequity in healthcare access and delivery are widely recognized issues. Most health systems struggle to engage with so-called hard-to-reach populations, such as minorities, people suffering from substance abuse or mental illness and those suffering from homelessness. They also struggle to properly support people living in rural or remote locations. Meeting people where they are, with technology that provides more ways to interact with the health system and services tailored to people’s needs will help.

Impact on Data Privacy

Digital platforms and other companies maintaining any personal or health information that relates to pregnancy or obtaining abortion are subject to new enforcement and operational challenges following the ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. If a company maintains any individually identifiable information that can be used as proof of termination of a pregnancy, the company could be required to provide that information in response to subpoenas from law enforcement agencies seeking to prosecute the abortion, depending upon how that information is used and maintained.

athenahealth’s study highlights that telehealth access increases patients’ ability to obtain the health care services they rely on in an easy, quick, and convenient way and can help fill traditional in-person care gaps, particularly where those with chronic conditions or in underserved areas are concerned. Congress must act now to ensure permanent telehealth protection so that the millions who have benefitted and come to rely on telehealth do not lose access to equitable health care.

The Impact of Maternal Health Disparities on Your Workplace

These maternal health disparities have a huge impact on the health and overall well-being of your employees, their families, and your business. That’s in part because the vast majority of women (who make up nearly half the American workforce) will become mothers during their careers.

The good news: You can play an active role in advancing maternal health equity by supporting improved access to quality care.

Inaccurate and Incomplete Data Delays Specialty Treatment for Patients and is Top Stressor for Health Care Providers

There is a natural sense of urgency to want to begin treatment right away for both providers and patients. The technology available today can help to close the gaps in patient health information, speeding up the time it takes from a patient's initial diagnosis to starting treatment with specialty medications.
