Executives in Focus: Get Well

What is at the core of Get Well's work?

As the leader in patient engagement, Get Well has helped healthcare organizations differentiate themselves in meaningful and measurable ways for more than 20 years. We offer a uniquely personal experience based upon a very straightforward operating standard: An informed, involved patient leads to better outcomes.

With the largest portfolio of patient engagement solutions in the market, Get Well reaches 950+ client sites and handles more than 50 million patient interactions per year. Our flexible approach to patient engagement enables organizations to tailor the method and amount of communication to each individual patient. This ensures patients feel connected, prepared, and informed at every step of their health journey.

What are some current projects and/or innovative initiatives you are working on?

Get Well is leading the charge to address maternal health inequities. Our Maternal Health and Equity program, which has been deployed with some of the largest healthcare systems in the country, seeks to close the gap in maternal health outcomes using innovative digital technology. In order to reduce barriers to access for all birthing people, the program operates around three principles: broad engagement (via SMS text messaging — the communication channel accessible to the greatest number of people), a focus on empathy and empathetic language, and a mobile-first approach.

CommonSpirit Health leveraged our Maternal Health and Equity program and saw a 37% decrease in preterm births and 1.8 day shorter length of stay since implementing this program, which features a text-based patient navigation solution that pairs virtual care guides with patients for personalized care and support.

Who are leader(s) in your organization? How are they showing leadership in healthcare?

Michael O’Neil, Founder and CEO

Following treatment for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Michael O’Neil launched Get Well with a mission to empower people to take a more active role in their health journey. Two decades later, Get Well works with leading healthcare organizations and touches millions of patients. Under his leadership, Get Well is a true leader in delivering personalized care that drives improvements in individual and population health. From the inpatient experience to discharge care and all the touch points along a person’s lifelong healthcare, delivering the best possible patient experience remains Michael’s — and Get Well’s — true north.

Nikia Bergan, President

Nikia is leading Get Well into a new era of digital transformation — one that ensures Get Well’s technology systematically puts patients first and makes a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families, as well as providers and clinical staff.

Her growth strategy focuses on strategic partnerships, a commitment bolstered by Nikia’s 20 years of experience working with strategic account executives at leading health systems. Her holistic approach to serving key accounts is pivotal to Get Well’s success in securing partnerships with some of the largest, most progressive health systems in the country.

Todd Strickler, SVP, Product

Todd heads up a multidisciplinary team working to evolve Get Well’s cross-continuum patient engagement solutions to lead the next generation of consumer-driven healthcare with top healthcare providers. Todd has a proven track record in driving digital transformation, including time as Vice President of Mobile and Digital Customer Experience at Marriott International, where he reimagined its mobile apps and on-property digital experiences. Before Marriott, he co-founded Softcard and launched the first contactless payments on mobile devices in the U.S. market. The company was acquired by Google in 2015.

Royal Tuthill, GM, Ambulatory and Population Health

Royal brings a wealth of knowledge to bear on consumer engagement, product development, and population health. He joined Get Well when the company acquired consumer engagement company Docent Health. As founder and president of Docent Health, he grew the company from ideation to a nationally recognized enterprise partner of leading health systems like CommonSpirit Health, Sutter Health, Northwell Health, and Ohio Health.
